      FAIRVIEW, S.D. -- Henry Groen, 73, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls.

      Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Netherlands Reformed Congregation, Rock Valley, Iowa, with the Rev. G. M. de Leeuw officiating. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley. Visitation with the family present will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

      Henry Marinus Groen was born Aug. 17, 1930, to Cornelius and Agnes (Verhey) Groen in rural Sioux County, Iowa. On April 2, 1952, he married Pauline Vander Boon of Rock Valley.


      Henry served in the U.S. Army, 4th Infantry Division, from May 1952 to May 1954. After his discharge, the couple farmed in Rock Valley, Sheldon and Hospers, Iowa, areas. They retired to Fairview in November 1999.

      Henry was a lifelong member of Netherlands Reformed Congregation.

      Survivors include his wife Pauline; three daughters, Alice Etler and her husband Donald of Algona, Iowa, Janet Groen of Sheldon and Cheryl Schelling and her husband Matthew of Sioux Center, Iowa; seven grandchildren, John and Michael Etler of Algona, Paul, Stanton, Sarah, Melinda and Allison Schelling of Sioux Center; two brothers and their wives, Clarence and Pearl Groen of Steen, Minn., and Paul and Angeline Groen of Brookings, S.D.; six sisters-in-law, Jeanette Groen of Rock Valley, Lena Van Ravenswaay and her husband Adrian of Sioux Center, Ann Vlastuin and her husband Fred of Rock Valley, Marie Rozeboom and her husband Gerritt of Ada, Mich., Adriana Rozeboom and her husband Tuenis of Anthem, Ariz., and Connie Boon and her husband Cornie of Pierson, Mich.; four brothers-in-law, Orie Vander Boon and his wife Laurena, John Vander Boon and his wife Margaret and Abe Vander Boon and his wife Sandy, all of Ada, and Cornie Van Veldhuizen of Inwood, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins

      and a host of friends.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and her husband, Della and Wilfred Wallenburg; a brother, John Groen; three sisters-in-law, Pearl Groen, Sarah Key and Sybil Van Veldhuizen; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Key.

      In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Netherlands Reformed Building Fund.
