      Adrian Van Ravenswaay, 81 of Sioux Center, died September 17 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

      Funeral services were Friday, September 21, at 10 a.m. at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Sioux Center with the Reverend E.C. Adams officiating. Interment was at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

      Van Ravenswaay was born October 2, 1925, to Johannes and Everdena Van Ravenswaay near Ireton. At age three, his family moved to a farm west of Sioux Center, which became his lifetime residence. He attended country school at Center #3 through the eighth grade. He served his country during WW II as a member of the Navy taking part in the Pacific Theater from 1944-1946. After his return from the war he mat and married Helena E. Vander Boon on February 8, 1954, in Rock Valley. The couple farmed west of Sioux Center from 1954 until his retirement.

      He was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Sioux Center and served as a deacon for many years. He would often be found spending his free time repairing things at church. He found pleasure in gardening and and would grow sweet corn for his family and friends.

      Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Helena Van Ravenswaay of Sioux Center; four daughters, Dianne Van Ravenswaay of Minneapolis, Marilyn and Greg Peter of Tyler, Minnesota, JoAnn and Willis Groeneweg of Corsica, South Dakota, and Esther Van Ravenswaay of Hull; two sons, Norman and Sherry Van Ravenswaay of Rock Valley and Lyle and Mary Van Ravenswaay of Hull; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildrne; his brother, John Van Ravenswaay of Kissimmee, Florida; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Van Ravenswaay of Ireton, Sadie Van Ravenswaay of Orange City and Lila Van Ravenswaay of Ontario, California, and numerous nieces and nephews.

      He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Gerard "Gary" and Donald Van Ravenswaay.

      The Van Ravenswaay Family prefers memorials be directed to the Netherlands Reformed Christian School.
